Architect Scott Schmidt joins GMC Georgia

Atlanta – Architect Scott Schmidt, AIA, NCARB, has joined the firm’s Georgia team as project manager and senior architect. Mr. Schmidt has more than 38 years of architectural experience managing a wide array of project types, including general manufacturing and industrial, educational, aviation and aerospace, commercial and retail, pharmaceutical, bio-medical, research and development and design-build.

His portfolio includes several projects for the U.S. military, including the Ft. Benning Starship Barracks renovation in Columbus, Ga.; Ft. Jackson Starship Barracks renovation in Columbia, S.C.; and the Air Force Special Operations Command master planning project, which entailed working with the Japan District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on task orders to support the design of an Osprey aircraft complex at Yokota Air Force Base in Tokyo.

Schmidt also served as the project manager for numerous facilities for Boeing, including an aircraft manufacturing facility in St. Louis, Mo., and multiple design-build facilities in Long Beach, Calif., for the F/A-18 Super Hornet and an aircraft manufacturing facility for the C-17 Globemaster III in Long Beach.

Many of the projects he has worked on have been recognized with industry design awards, including the MARTA Buckhead Station and Ken Byers Tennis Center at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta; Ft. Benning Barracks in Columbus; and Ft. Jackson Barracks and Dining Facility in Columbia.

Schmidt graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a registered architect in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
